How to verify if any IE browsers are active, if so - have to close all browsers before start of execution.

Hy Andrew,

You can use the following Teststeps to close all open IE Browser windows.
The Module "TC Start Program" kills all processes with the ImageName "iexplore.exe".
"TC Wait Terminate" stops the execution until all processes are terminated.

If you do not have any open Browser windows the steps will just go through.

Command usable with Taskkill

Thanks for this tip! This is a fairly common problem and in the past we've used other methods such as custom keyword scripts to achieve this. The 'taskkill' method looks much simpler.

Hi Rakesh,

You can find the Module TC Start Program in the download package "Process Operations" on the Support Portal.

Here would be an example how you can launch IE with

Hi Rakesh,

Apart from what Agnes correctly suggested, you can also use the "TC Start URL" module, also available under Process operations in the support portal. It launches the user specified URL in the default browser.

Hi Agnes,

The command /f /im iexplore.exe only works for TC Start program but not for Tbox Start Program. Using TBox Start program we are able to close only one instance of the Browser using the command /im iexplore.exe
I am bringing this into picture because during batch run in the execution list, the script from one test case to another is halted (hanged up) in most of the cases & also some of the Test steps are also impacted for eg: Pop ups specially.
It seems that we have to use Tbox start program while steering Web apps to prevent such impacts or should not incorporate killing all instances is the question.

Hi Akash,

I've just seen your question  - here is a screenshot of Agnes' taskkill command, done with TBox:

@Shrirang, you said taskkill isn't working for you. Maybe you can explain what exactly isn't working. Also, try to kill all IE instances using taskkill in windows' command line. If you can kill your instances there, Tosca should also be able to do it!
