Error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when running classic or mixed execution

Since Tosca 9.1, when executing classic test steps on their own or in a mixed execution with TBox the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" is occuring.

Situation

Classic test steps on their own or in conjunction with TBox TestStep might cause the following error:

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Solution

For this you will most likely need to edit the settings files in which the setting "Engine.Report Successful Execution of" was changed, which might include WorkspaceSettings.xml, ProjectSettings.xml and Settings.xml.

In these the setting "Engine.Report Successful Execution of" needs to be set from "0" to "1".

The message "Object not set to instance of Object" means that you are trying to use an object which has not been initialized. That is, you either set it to null, or you never set it to anything at all. The runtime throwing a NullReferenceException always means the same thing: you are trying to use a reference. The reference is not initialized (or it was initialized, but is no longer initialized).
