How to copy data from a website and save it as an Excel file

This article contains key examples needed to copy information from a website with Tosca Commander.  Then we can use that information in a buffer to save it to an excel document.

Situation

You would like to copy and save some data from a website into an Excel file.

PREREQUISITES

1) Import the Tosca AidPack

2) Make sure Microsoft® Excel 2003 or higher is installed on your machine

Solution

1) We scan the website via Xscan to create a module of our data.  Here, we have scanned a site with general user information, including generic objects - which require us to buffer the values via their "InnerText" Property.

The XBuffer "SSN" is set with {XB[SSN]}, which is the value we will be saving to our Excel document.

2) In the next step, use the "Excel Range Manipulation" module by either dragging from the excel modules in the AidPack or pressing CTRL+T to select it via the search.

As you can see, we've also set the row number to be dynamic, and have a buffer in a later test step called RowNumber that increments the row for us.  This is using the "Tbox Set Buffer" module. The SSN from the step above, is called by using the buffer command {B[SSN]}.  This is the value that will be saved into the SSN column of our Excel document.

Adding increments to the row number.

3) Finally, we add the "Excel Close Workbook" module to close and save our workbook.

The Finished Output.
