Steer CSV files with TBox DB Expert Module

Steering a CSV file in TBox without any classic modules like “Excel Engine” or “TextStream Engine”.

Situation

You must steer a CSV file named “test.csv” but can not use any classic engines.

Solution

! This will only work with Tosca v11.3+ at the time of writing !

You could use the “TBox DB Expert module” and you must have to deliver in the connection string the folder where your file is, where at the SQL Statement the filename itself is needed.

Please have a look at the example parameter:
Open Connection: Select
Connection string: "Driver={Microsoft Text Driver (*.txt; *.csv)};Dbq=C:\temp\;Extensions=asc,csv,tab,txt;"
Driver: Generic ODBC
SQL Statement: SELECT * FROM [test.csv]

Now you can steer in your csv file and verify/buffer/… values like in a table.

Change the delimiter

If you want to change the delimiter, then you must create a file named "Schema.ini" which must exist in the same folder as the to-be-steered csv file.

Example with semicolon

[textfileWithSemicolon.csv]
ColNameHeader=True
Format=Delimited(;)

Example with tab

[textfileWithTAB.csv]
ColNameHeader=True
Format=TabDelimited

Limitations

- It is only one delimiter per file possible
- Tables have a max size of 255x255 fields
- One fieldname can only have a max. length of 64 characters
- field widths are limited to 32766 characters
- the file is limited to 65000 bytes
- the file can only be opened by one user
