Can not checkout licenses and all buttons (New, Open, About Tosca,.) are disabled in Tosca Commander

Please refer to for more updated solutions

This article will show symptoms and a possible solution when all buttons in Tosca Commander are disabled and it is is not possible to checkout licenses.

When opening Tosca Commander you see a screen like this:

All buttons on the left are disabled. Tosca can not get a license, but it can actually connect to a license server.

When starting TBox logging (see here how to do that: TBox Logging) you can see the following or similar error messages:

First of all, please talk to your IT and ask them if it is ok to disable the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\FipsAlgorithmPolicy. As this setting might affect your machine's security, you should not do any changes on your own in this regard!

After having clarified that, and after having created a backup of your registry, please follow these steps:

- Open Regedit
- create a backup of your registry!
- navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\FipsAlgorithmPolicy
- set Enabled to 0

Be aware: modifying the Registry might break your machine. Ask your IT if you're not comfortable doing that! Tricentis does not recommend doing these steps and will not be liable in case you break your system!
