Solution

Uninstall Tricentis Analytics and Qlik Sense

  • Head over to “Apps and Features” or “Programs and Features” and uninstall everything which is named like:
    Tricentis Analytics
    Qlik

Uninstall left over MSI packages

  1. At first create a list of all installed MSI packages.
    Start PowerShell and execute
    get-wmiobject Win32_Product | Format-Table IdentifyingNumber, Name, LocalPackage -AutoSize > "C:\temp\installedMSI.txt"
  2. Uninstall leftovers from QlikTricentis Analytics and PostgreSQL with the corresponding ID and the following command within CMD (and not Powershell)
    msiexec /x {MSI-ID}
  3. Reboot the machine

  4. Check if any Qlik/Tricentis Analytics GUIDs from the "installedMSI.txt" is still present in the following folder:
    C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{MSI-ID}
Delete the folder if there are still any Qlik, Tricentis Analytics files in it.
Caution with this step, do not delete any folder where you are not 100% sure if this belongs to Qlik or Tricentis Analytics.

Empty temp folder

It is also important that the %temp% folder is as empty as possible.
Execute CCleaner (the regular cleaner) multiple times until no results are shown, to make sure that any orphaned and relevant files are completely removed from your machine.
Afterwards, you can simply delete the CCleaner folder again.
CCleaner can be downloaded from: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download/portable
If you are not comfortable using CCleaner you can use any other registry cleaner and temp folder cleaner of your choosing.

Clean the registry

  • Start REGEDIT as admin and head over to the following key:
    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

  • Search for all Qlik Services and delete those

  • Search for the Tricentis Analytics Service delete it

Clean the remaining folder

  • Delete all old folders which are belonging to Tricentis Analytics and Qlik in:
    "C:\ProgramData"
    "C:\Program Files (x86)"
    "C:\Program Files"
    "%Appdata%"
    "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local"

Remove the Qlik certificate

It is good advice to check if the Qlik certificate has also been removed

  • Open a command prompt window
  • Type "mmc" and press the ENTER button. Note that you must be in the Administrator role.
  • On the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-In.
  • Click Add.
  • In the Add Standalone Snap-in dialog box, select Certificates.
  • Click Add.
  • Select the certificates for the current user
  • Go to Personal/Certificates
  • Check if there is a QlikClient certificate in the folder, if so then delete it

Remove old Windows User

You may have to remove the added Windows (admin) user which can be created at the setup

  • Start ‘netplwiz’
  • Head over to your Analytics user, e.g. Analyticsadmin
  • Click on “Remove”
  • Repeat if there are multiple Analytics Windows user

Uninstall Qlik Sense

Sometimes the Qlik Sense app will still remain, even after the rollback

  • Open up the control panel
  • Go to: “Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features”
  • Remove the application “Qlik Sense*”, e.g. “Qlik Sense June 2018”

Reinstall .NET Framework 4.7.2

Either uninstall and reinstall “Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2” or deactivate/activate it again.

You can also try the following automatic cleanup tool: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/astebner/2008/08/28/net-framework-cleanup-tool-users-guide/

Reboot Windows

Reboot your machine with the following command in CMD:

shutdown -g -t 00

Reinstall Tricentis Analytics

Now try to reinstall Tricentis Analytics.

Keep in mind to check the following before you are installing it:

  • Never open the Task Manager, until mentioned by a Tricentis employee

  • Check that you have installed .NET 4.7.2 (as described in Reinstall .NET Framework 4.7.2), the Reboot Windows step is mandatory.
  • Check that the official Qlik ports are opened/not used by the system:
    https://help.qlik.com/en-US/sense/February2019/Subsystems/PlanningQlikSenseDeployments/Content/Sense_Deployment/Ports.htm
You can check this with the following command:
    netstat -aon
  • The user/admin who is installing Tricentis Analytics must have the following rights:
    - Full local admin rights
    - Create a new administrator user
    - Create a new user group
    - Has the rights to install/import certificates (see step “Remove the Qlik certificate”)

  • You MUST have a valid internet connection, to check if the certificates are valid.
There is a workaround for that, but we do not recommend it as it could lead to unexpected behavior in the future.
    https://community.qlik.com/t5/Qlik-Sense-App-Development/Reloading-Governance-Apps-Licence-and-Operation-Monitor/td-p/13379

  • Check if you have "Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable" installed, if yes uninstall it and install "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable". You can re-install after the Tricentis Analytics installation the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable".

  • You have an empty DB with no or empty tables where the user which connects to is has dbo (=all) rights

  • The DB is set up in MS SQL as mentioned in the manual

  • Disable your AntiVirus system. Especial if there is some kind of "wix" issue or "Failed to open parent pipe" error in the logs.
